Glad you liked it Jaan. The makers of the documentary were Belgian, they might have done other stuff about Gaul, but as for writing things down, no, all this was memorized, I watched a documentary about one of the last native Gaelic speakers of Eire, the narrator seemed amazed that an old man who couldn't read or write could recall from memory all the Gaelic tales, like the "Salmon of Knowledge" in my reply to Fascninater.
The Irish had a fine way of living, waaaay back there, a Most Excellent way of dealing with the various issues of life in a community. And Christianity came and crushed damn near all the life out of ‘em. And as much as I love my Brit (English) pals, they were genocided, too, in the Potato “Famine” — deliberate evil done to them, nothing natural about it. I have Irish blood in me, and English, and Scot, also… So I don’t SIDE with anybody strictly on heritage, but I side with victims of injustice and terrorism regardless of what their parentage is. People are people no matter anything else, and so I judge others by what they DO. End of sermon!! ^_^ I did enjoy that video, and maybe someone needs to re-start Druidism, if that’s possible… xo
I've got an old book somewhere, it's Victorian propaganda exonerating 0liver Cromwell of his subjugation of the Irish, which lead to this; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Act_for_the_Settlement_of_Ireland_1652 The book is 19th century political spin, nowt new under the sun.
"......majestically the Druids, holding high converse with their disciples on the nature of the one God — for such philosophers could only be monotheists! — on the immortality of the soul, the courses of the stars, and, in fact, on all the mighty problems of life......."
I'm frantically searching for an attorney to help me beat back this fucking psycho brother of mine before he actually kills my parents. Send me Good Vibes, I'll hopefully be able to look at things like the above again soon... xo
Great doc!! Cheers!! Had no idea the druids were an important force in the development of Christianity. I thought the English just turned the Irish Celts into a subjugated people.
And Jeezuz.... it seems as a wandering scholar may have even made it over to the Emerald Island.
The photography was beautiful!! Felt like I was looking at living, breathing works of Monet.
It was written & researched by Frank Delaney, I've got the book..."the ancient Irish worshipped the River Boyne which flowed from a sacred pool, which sprang from the earth in a grove where nine wise hazel trees grew, their fallen nuts made the water rich with knowledge, thus the salmon of the Boyne were much prized, but one was prized above all, "The Salmon of Knowledge", a king spent seven years trying to catch this magical fish from which if eaten he could gain all knowledge & truth, eventually SUCCESS the fish was caught! The roasting was started & the king retired to meditate before he imbibed himself of these miraculous powers, leaving his serf Finn McCool (great name!) to supervise the cooking, but of course warning Finn not to taste. When turning the fish over Finn burnt his thumb 0UCH!! which he immediately put into his mouth & it that one moment gained total knowing, from then on whenever he needed to know "the truth" on a subject he merely had to press his thumb to his mouth (or wisdom tooth) & the mystery would be revealed. Apparently this accounts for early Chistian symbolism of fish, anointing by taste, mystical properties of a river (The Ganges India) & a hero God"
I've been fascinated by the historical versus biblical Jesus since I was a small boy there was non of the following taught at school...
This is so cool, thanks, Andy!
I wonder if anyone wrote down how to be a Druid... if he's the last one. I hope it's not all lost now... Lovely video!
